Why Support Us
Amanda Root, 56 years old, London, Founder of Pretty Wonderful Rooms
Ambition has no age limit
Our jobs define us. The employment path we choose shapes our lifestyle and personality, providing many of us with personal fulfilment and confidence.
With over 3.5 million people between the age of 50 and 64 out of work in the UK, redundancy and unemployment is a huge problem for the over 50 community; many of whom possess a wealth of skill and ambition, yet are turned away from employment because of their age.
We need to face facts, there are currently over 21 million people over the age of 50 in the UK and that number is growing. Fast. By 2013, it is estimated that there will be more people over the age of 65 than under 15. The ageing population is the biggest issue that society is facing.
Self-employment as a solution
We believe that we self-employment is a fantastic option against a backdrop of unemployment in our ageing society. It can offer over 50s the following opportunities:
The change to use all the skills built up over a lifetime of working
Flexible working hours
Opportunity to rise to a new challenge
Personal development and motivation
Combat social isolation and ill health borne out of unemployment
