Senior Enterprise Programme

Senior Enterprise

Senior Enterprise, which is being supported by the EU through INTERREG IVB NWE, is specifically designed to encourage a greater involvement with enterprise by those aged 50 and over.

This may be through starting a business, alone or with others, acquiring or investing in a business, advising an entrepreneur or supporting innovation within a business owned by another.

In this way Senior Enterprise addresses the concerns of the European Union with regard to the challenges posed by an ageing population, and the need to increase productivity, competitiveness and entrepreneurial activity across the EU. It is intended that as a result of Senior Enterprise that more businesses will have been started, more investment will have been made and that more senior citizens will be active as advisors in new and developing businesses.

The different methods that Senior Enterprise seeks to achieve its goals are as follows:

Raising Awareness – To raise awareness of the various ways in which those aged 50+ can engage with enterprise and the many benefits that can flow from that engagement. On November 14th 2012 The Prince’s Initiative hosts a Senior Enterprise Conference, which will address the concerns, challenges and successes that Senior Enterprise faces and will seek to raise awareness – keep an eye on the details here.

Starting and Partnering – Encouraging a greater number of those aged 50+ to become an entrepreneur and start a new business either individually or with a younger partner.

Investing and Acquiring – To encourage a greater number of those aged 50+ to become an investor or to acquire a business started by someone else.

Advising and Innovating – Encouraging a greater number of advisors / mentors from among suitably qualified and experienced older people and those interested in supporting entrepreneurs aged 50+

Senior Enterprise Role Models - This transnational programme has collected case studies from France, Ireland and the UK to showcase the support, work and success each partner has had in helping senior enterprise. Have a look here at all the role models.
